Our Values

Values are those ideas and concepts that we hold to be important enough that we live our lives based on them. Our values explain why we do things the way we do them. At St John’s, we have 11 core values that reflect our situation and are crucial to our life as a community – they both express what we are, and function as ideals to which we aspire.

You can find more details about these values here.

  1. We value relevant, accurate Bible teaching, because we believe this is how God’s children hear the word and will of God for their life.
  2. We value loving, sacrificial, grace-drenched relationships, because we believe God has saved us by his grace and through the sacrifice of his love.
  3. We value the pursuit of full devotion to Christ and his cause, because we believe this is normal for every child of God.
  4. We value the ministry of every member of the church, because we believe that God gives each person gifts for the benefit of all of us.
  5. We value those who are strangers to the love of God, because Christ Jesus came into the world to seek and save the lost.
  6. We value small groups, because we believe this is where community is most powerfully expressed and experienced.
  7. We value meeting people where they are at in our church services, because we believe that church forms and traditions make powerful servants but poor masters.
  8. We value a ‘whole of life’ ministry program, because we believe that people of all ages and stages should find a caring home in the church.
  9. We value excellence in our ministry, because we believe that it honours God and inspires people.
  10. We value careful planning underpinned by fervent believing prayer, because we believe that unless the Lord builds the house, they that build it labour in vain.
  11. We value transparency, accountability and integrity, because we believe that that all of us need the strength that comes from being open with and to others.
